Eric Jack | drums
On March 29, 1982 Eric was born to Robert and Carol Jack in Elmira, New York. Growing up, he could be found beating on anything you could imagine. Rumor has it that he built his own little drumset out of plastic ice cream pails. All the signs pointed to drums/percussion when 5th grade rolled around and students were to decide what they want to play in the band. But, Eric chose the clarinet. Was it because all of his friends were playing the drums? Was it because his mother played the clarinet in high school??? We may never know.
By his seventh grade year he had decided that the charade was over and he was switching to drums. The band instructor would not let him because she needed him on clarinet and there were already too many drummers. So when his family move out to Illinois he told the band teacher he was a drummer and had always played the drums. His parents then received a bill for a four hundred dollar snare drum and that was that.
He continued to play drums through high school in Poquoson, Virginia. During his time there he was a member of the marching band, jazz band, wind ensemble, and symphonic band. During his senior year he decided he wanted to pursue music as a career and auditioned at Longwood College and was accepted as a music education major, primary percussion. The program at Longwood focused mainly on concert percussion versus drums set mechanics and playing.
While at Longwood Eric was a member of the Wind Symphony, Percussion Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble. His honorable awards through the jazz ensemble were Outstanding soloist awards three years in a row at the UNCW Jazz Festival and Clinic. He also had the pleasure of playing jazz combo gigs with Dr. Charlie Kinzer for special events and locations such as the Governors mansion in Richmond, Virginia.
Eric has been with Jubeus since 2000, though the band has undergone name and member changes/additions.
