Jubeus - Jason Masi
Jason Masi | vocals, guitar
Jason Masi was born in Fredericksburg VA, the son of Ruth and William Masi in the middle class suburbs of Chancellors Battlefield. As a young boy he was exposed to the musical environment mainly through his older brother, Jeff Masi, who played drums in numerous rock, country, r&b, jazz, and heavy metal bands throughout high school. Music always had a deep emotional impact on him and was the driving force of his mind and soul.

Inspired by his musical surroundings, Jason began dabbling with music by strumming his fathers idle classical guitar in high school in between trips to soccer practices and games. These practices and games took much of his time , being that he played on a team an hour and 1/2 outside of where he lived. This did, however, prove beneficial to him musically as he found his voice in those long car rides while singing along with many of his favorite artists such as Bob Marley, The Grateful Dead, James Taylor, Chris Cornell, Red Hot Chili Peppers and other music he found appealing.

Music soon took over much of his free time and he found himself starting up garage bands like The Bearded Clams (grunge rock) and the Natural Brew (soulful rock) with his musically enthusiastic friends. Unsure of what to do after graduation, Jason took an offer to play soccer and attend Longwood University, where he would later meet his fellow Jubeans.

Always driven through athletics, but compelled to pursue his musical passion, Jason ended his college soccer career in 2000. By this point, he had met up with current bass player and musical guru Mike Jarvis and shared the studio and the stage with his experimental avante-garde project, First Floor.

On the verge of his own musical creativity, Jason began a project of his own called MickyFinn, a college party band that played as the house band at the Lighthouse Café near Longwood campus. As the music continued to develop and Jason continued to write, he moved with his remaining band members to Richmond, VA to pursue his musical dreams.

The style which Jason writes is singer-songwriter sensible and as eclectic as all the music he has been a part of or has ever been exposed to. At age 25, Jason has written over 70 songs which range in style from Caribbean, blues, soul, reggae folk, pop, country, and jam. His lyrics are written from whatever inspires him and feels natural, including but not limited to whimsical love encounters, the meaning of life, pursuit of spiritual understanding, relationships, good days, bad days, social unrest, and controlling the boundaries of reality. His performances are filled with emotion in every note he sings or plays.
